Unfortunately, the show is wrong, on both counts. Changing a scene from consensual sex to rape is not just a pedantic issue of accuracy—it’s a problem with story. The Daenerys Targaryen who falls in love with a man who granted her respect when no one else would is different from the Daenerys Targaryen who fell in love with her rapist. It changes that relationship. (Dany falling in love with Drogo, and calling him her “sun and stars,” makes a whole lot more sense now, doesn’t it?)
Similarly, Jaime is a figure of chivalric love in the books—despite his arrogance and ruthlessness, his devotion and sense of duty to Cersei, the only woman he has ever loved, is so fervent as to border on adoration. Admittedly, the show can’t rely on his point-of-view chapters, as the book does, to communicate that love. But given what we have seen Cersei Lannister capable of—her ex-husband is hardly the only man she’s had killed—is it even conceivable that she would stand for it? Jaime raping Cersei is a major anomaly for these two characters—even based purely on what we’ve seen in the show. It’s just not something that either character would do.

Me if I ever sat next to drake
If the sex isn’t filthy, don’t waste my time.
*Googles big word before I fuck around and use it injudiciously*
jaime would not rape cersei
the whole point of that fucking scene
is that she says yes
she says you’re home
she says you’re here
and then he fucks it up NOT BY FUCKING HER but by PROPOSING TO HER and telling her that they can replace their dead son with a new one
it’s not the sex that’s the problem it’s jaime’s newly arisen insecurity from his lack of a sword hand
THE WHOLE POINT IS THAT CERSEI SAYS YES
fuuuuuuuuuuuck game of thrones fuck that show
Jaime, you deserve to be a citizen so hard. You are so good at doing my taxes.
"Women of today are still being called upon to stretch across the gap of male ignorance and to educate men as to our existence and our needs. This is an old and primary tool of all oppressors to keep the oppressed occupied with the master’s concerns. Now we hear that it is the task of women of Color to educate white women—in the face of tremendous resistance—as to our existence, our differences, our relative roles in our joint survival. This is a diversion of energies and a tragic repetition of racist patriarchal thought."
Always genius and insightful. See…I’ve experienced this demand from White women who would be livid if White men suggested the same—spoon feed them information and fill their time with coddling men’s desires to control their energy.
I love the way Audre Lorde connected patriarchal oppression of women by men to White supremacist oppression of Black and other women of colour by White women. Ahem!
When in a position of privilege, do not demand the oppressed cater to your needs, adjust their “tone” or do anything other than what is required of them to deconstruct and resist oppression.
tbh i’m not really feeling the “imagine that she were your mother/sister/daughter” approach to teaching men how to respect women because women have value and dignity as human beings completely independent of some kinship to a man. and lets not act like a whole array of misogyny abuse and disrespect doesn’t occur within familial relationships so…
Knocking down a concrete building usually takes brute force: Wrecking balls, huge excavators, or explosives rip apart walls while fire hoses spray water to keep the clouds of dust down. It’s an energy-intensive process, and after everything’s been torn apart, the concrete often ends up in a landfill or has to be trucked to a recycling facility. But a new concrete-erasing robot may eventually transform the messy business of demolition.
I think about this particular Instagram post at least once a day.
